Babassu oil is obtained from the nuts of the palm tree Orbignya oleifera, native to Brazil. Fluid, light, and fast-absorbing, it is often compared to coconut oil but is distinguished by its dry, silky touch, which does not leave a greasy film on the skin. Highly valued in formulations, it provides softness and nourishment while being suitable for combination to oily skin.
Cosmetic indications
This oil is ideal for moisturizing without weighing down. It is suitable for skin prone to discomfort (dryness, tightness) as well as for combination or oily skin thanks to its balancing effect. For hair care, it nourishes dry, dull hair while providing lightness and shine. It is also used in sun care products for its softening and protective benefits.
Specific components and properties
Its richness in lauric acid (40–50%) gives it nourishing, protective, and slightly antimicrobial properties. It also contains myristic acid and palmitic acid, which reinforce its softening and protective action. Its tocopherol (vitamin E) and phytosterol content contribute to cell protection and help fight oxidative stress.
Practical uses
Thanks to its uniquely dry touch, babassu oil is especially appreciated in modern formulations seeking comfort and lightness. Available in various packaging options, it can be delivered in bulk or in small volumes for testing. Contact us to receive a technical sheet, a free sample, or a personalized quote.
